what does 1999 Montero's which was sold in Purto Rico compares to U.S models, they look like pre-1998 in U.S. I came cross one with 170K mileage on it, I believe it is LS since I don't see orange sticker on driver site, there is no record of timing belt were replaced, but interior looks ok.

please advise.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
They are awesome with no body cladding, sometimes no center console or center gauge cluster. The seats are fastened with torque to shear bolts so if you ever want to take the seats out it's a pain but other than that the trucks themselves are awesome and i miss the one that i had.

Thank you for getting back to me, what I am afraid is with 170K miles is probably due timing belt and water pump . is the engine 3.0 or 3.5? I am not looking to do any off road activity, but I like these trucks. what do you guys think?

thx

I picked up an extremely clean bare bones Puerto Rican 98 (3.0L) with around 130K from a fellow board member a few years back. Only mods have been 31x10.50 AT's and cup holders. Water pump, timing, plugs and wires done at 175K by dealership ($1,500). Transmission has always seemed to 'hunt' a bit around 45 mph but solid otherwise, power windows are slow, clear coat has peeled from hood and roof and she requires a qt of oil between 3,500 mile changes (no smoke and no visible leakage)> Overall, one of the most reliable vehicles I've owned and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it cross country or to Portsmouth Island, Cape Lookout NS which is about as remote as you can get here in NC.

Mild offroading in sand on NC Outer Banks and Forest Service fire roads in the Smokies, snow/ice in winter. Extremely comfortable to drive (6'4", 260 lbs) with great visibility all around. Power is adequate; 16-19 MPG.

Our stable consists of a stock 12 DC TRD Tacoma (camper towing and grand baby hauler), mild build 00 Wrangler (farm & offroad), 08 Solstice (summer toy) and the Montero. The Montero gets the most daily use.

Thx, the one I am looking at is one owner, but no record of timing belt service record. interior looks fine, however driver site window doesn't operate correctly and rear hatch door handel is broken from outside. planning to see it this weekend will 1400$ is good starting price.

will 170000 miles is a lot for for this model and year? I understand it depends how it was taken care of? what do I need to consider when I went for test drive.
