Sorry that I missed your question. Over 1300 views and 60 watchers on ebay, with lots of questions. Yes it was a misprint - corrected to 10,800 last time it was weighed by my F-in-L and it was loaded. I plan to weigh it empty on my way into Denver on Monday.

# 53 Block

#53 blocks on the 5.9 Cummins have very thin cooling sleeves and a medium to high incidence of cracking. They were made by a company in Brazil. In 2001, Cummins recognized the problem and began to use an "unnumbered block" that was made by a different company and foundry in Mexico. The Mexican made blocks were MUCH thicker walled, and have shown no problems with cracks or leaking. The switch was easy for Cummins, since the complete engines were already being assembled in Mexico before shipping to Dodge.

I have researched the places on a 5.9L block where the "53" would appear as raised numbers larger than 1" tall. I have taken pictures of those places on my block and found no "53" or any large number at all. I made a call to Cummins. They said that about 20-25 % of 2001 engines were the unnumbered Mexican Blocks. That if mine is unnumbered, I had the Mexican Block and should have no problems. They also said that the only way to confirm the origin of my block would be to take the camper to a Cummins Truck Center and have it verified by engine number in the Cummins computer system. They do not confirm by phone. The camper is now in the Denver area and is due for Cummins engine servicing. I will have the block verified when it goes for service.

Sold to me!

Can't wait to pick this rig up tomorrow and drive it to SLC.
The final goal is to prepare this rig for 3 years of intermittent driving down to South America surfing along the way.
We are a family of 3.

I will be sure to start a build thread as soon as I know what I am building.
Think a poor man's Earthroamer without all the luxury/heavy stuff.

Start with removing extra pieces of fiberglass and plastic.
Add some big tires, replacing the duallies with singles.
Suspension mods as needed to make it drive like a dream.
From there, I don't know yet.

Any recommendations for a shop in or near SLC that can do this kind of work, please let me know.
