I am starting to put together some preliminary designs for a pop-up pickup camper. I have seen several slide in designs.

I was wondering why no one is building a frame up build?

Does anyone know what the weight of the short bed on a ’03 Tacoma weights. It seem like with a frame up build the weight/space savings would warrant the removing of the bed?

So the first question is what does the bed weigh?

Builds have been done by taking the bed off first.

My favorite example is The Super Camper. The reason we don't see more of this is the effort involved. Its much simpler to just buy a normal pop-up and slide it in, and off you go camping instead of spending months (or years) building.

I had seen that one but did not see a bed weight. I am a kind of the long term project sort. Thanks for the link.
