Why Sell? With kids now leaving the house (large van not needed) & with aging parents still actively crop farming, I’m in need of a full-size truck. Thus, I’m offering up our outstanding 2003 E350 adventure van for sale.
Build Philosophy: ‘Simplicate and add lightness’ coined by William Bushnell Stout’s designer Gordon Hooton is the guiding principle behind this build. The renowned aircraft designer Ed Heinemann (primary designer of dozens of aircraft including the A-1, A-4, and the F-16) proudly displayed this mantra on a plaque on his desk and I think I’ve been successful with applying the Hooton / Heinemann philosophy in this build. The van does not have an awning because I have a floppy hat (& its very windy where we normally camp). A simple gravity fed freshwater system saves weight and minimizes time spent cold weather-proofing the vehicle. A cartridge toilet saves weight as well. There was originally a space designated for an Espar diesel heater installation, but we found that with the extra insulation & four humans inside that the interior was plenty warm for Colorado Plateau cold weather camping. The van doesn’t have a roof rack because I wanted to keep the center of gravity low & also extend the longevity of the fiberglass top.
