2005 tacoma

I currently have a 2002 Tacoma Access Cab 4x4 TRD V6.

I have my eyes on a 2005 Tacoma Double cab 4x4 V6.

Due to the need to haul the kids around, I have to get the double cab.

Here are my questions, and I would appreciate your opinions.

I understand that Toyota recommends 91 octane fuel for the '05 tacoma V6. Is this just for their EPA ratings or is there some validity in using premium gas for performance and MPG?

This particular truck has the short bed, and in my mind this is the biggest draw back, in reality, does anyone have any comments on the short vs. long bed? Of course I would love to the long bed, but I cannot seem to find one near me.

Thanks

91 octane is not a requirement. It may "optimize" your engine performance, and may maximize your mpg's, but it won't hurt anything to run less.

The SB versus LB debate is dependent on your specific needs. In my experience, the 5' bed limits the solo or duo campers that want to sleep in their truck. It also limits the hauling/work truck capabilities for runs to Home Depot. But for packing the truck for adventure travel, the 5' box has plenty of room for a family of 4.

If you are committed to the Dbl Cab, then those shortcomings have to be compared to the overall length and wheelbase of the DC LB setup. It's a really, loooong truck. Depending on where you travel, this may or may not be an issue. But for narrow roads, rocky trails, and moderate breakovers, the length of the DC LB might limit you. The DB SB is the same length and WB as the Access Cab.

I use premium, but then mine is supercharged so I kinda half too, but when it wasn't I used Mid grade.

I would wait and try to find a long bed,

I love mine!
