2006 Chevy Silverado to 100k

We bought a brand new Chevy Silverado Z71 with the HO 5.3 aluminum block engine in July of 2006, and were a little upset when a couple of months later the warranty went from 36,000 miles to 100,000. It just hit 100,000, and I am happy to report that the extra warranty would have done me no good. I only had two warrantied items, and both were before 10,000 miles, so I am very pleased. The first was the AC intermittently quit blowing cold air, which took two trips to find but was traced to a chaffed ground wire. The second was one of the keyless remotes quit working - it was replaced. Other than that, it has been a great truck. Even the maintenance has been very low. It is still on the original brakes, the shocks got replaced for the first time on Saturday, so all I have really done is change the fluids at regular intervals and put fuel in it.

I think I will celebrate and put some more money into it, starting with and alignment, new tires, new belts, plugs, and fluids. Oh, and the brakes are getting close finally.

I think you will get many more miles out of the 5.3. I had a 2000 chevy 2wd 1500 with the 5.3, bought it used with 45,000 miles, owned it for 7 years and put 110,000 more miles on it. Nothing but changing the fluids. I sold it a year ago and still wonder if I did the right thing.

Congrats! Have fun with the next 100k miles :sombrero:

My dad and I both have 02's with 5.3's with over 200k miles on the odometer. If you take care of them, they will last.

ANY new vehicle should be good for 300k these days. That's what I'm planning to get out of mine, anyway! :) My dad has pushed several 5.7L Chevys well beyond 200k with intermittent abuse of overloading, and lots of plowing snow, and zero engine or trans problems. I have friends who have now done the same with 5.3's and 6.0's. Change the oil at 5k or so, and tranny fluid once in a while, and you're good almost forever. (Knock/Wood)

I'm hoping my current truck lasts at least to 300k for me, with the possible exception of having to do head gaskets on my aluminum head/iron block dmax... I'm saving my pennies for a nice used 2014 chevy colorado with a 2.8L turbodiesel, which I'll be ready for around 2017 at my current rate of 30k/year. :)

being in a car bz and dealing with many high end cars , i see how much American car quality went up, its amazing , on the other hand European car quality is down the drain , and keeps going down with every new model

good job keep making good cars and trucks and show them if we can build stealth bombers we can build good cars with no problem .

its funny my friend has Rolls Royce phantom he payed 370k for it ( dumb i know) this BMW made crap gave him so many problems he changed the air suspension about 6 times each time dropping 12 grand on work, finally he realized its just bad made car. then he found a guy who made diesel silverado front springs work under that car, that was it he never got suspension problem again haha then fuel pump and so many other things vent south, each pump is 2500 and it has 2 of them :) its 100% bmw 760il 12 cylinder 6 mpg. under the rr body

only 21k miles on it

gettin ready to turn 153k on the tahoe. regular maintenance and they will serve you well.

you mentioned brakes. got o z71tahoe-suburabn.com and check out the brake upgrade. i think it is 06 and up front brakes that is a direct bolt on for the front. the bad, it requires 17" wheels. lots of people really happy with the upgrade.

scratch the gab about the brakes. for some reason i had 03 in my head while typing
