Well, the time has come to offer our beloved rig up for sale. We are the original owners and the rig was custom built for us by SPORTSMOBILE WEST. We took delivery on July 16, 2008. This rig has served us extremely well and is really just getting started. We would like to find it a good home for it.

So after you sell the Sportsmobile, are you & your wife going to get matching BMW motorcycles? :sombrero:

how many does it sleep?

It has some upholstered / padded panels that Sportsmobile provided that create the upper sleeping area. The area is not as roomy as with the Penthouse top configuration and would be best suited to smaller adults and or kids.

You could sleep two on the king sized length bed created by the fold-down sofa and rear area and in theory (because I have never actually tried it) two in the upper area. I have also considered rolling out a therma-rest on the floor area for an additional sleeper. Realistically, it sleeps two very comfortably and you could sleep four taking into account what I mentioned above. If you used the floor area, you could creatively get five.

We have only used it for sleeping the two of us as our kids are grown and out on their own. I hope that I have answered you question.

Sigh, that is one well kitted and capable rig. Has to be one of the all time greats, get it and go - the world is awaits.

That does answer my question, very thoroughly.

At present, my 3 boys are age 7 and under so we could probably make it work. Unfortunately, my daydreaming gets in the way of reality. Traveling for any length of time in a van, even one as sweet as yours, with five people would be interesting to say the least...

After watching you put this one together, one can only imagine whats next??

Very curious, after all it's only been two weeks since SEMA ended.

That is the rig that inspired the Disabled Explorers WAVE (wheelchair accessible van for expeditions), Andy was kind enough to let me take it for a spin at the first Overland Expo and that was all I needed to realize what a great platform Sportsmobile West builds.

Andy is top notch and takes very good care of his rig & gear, no one will be unhappy with this deal.

Good luck with the sale!

While very funny, on some level that makes sense. Wonder what the numbers and time would look like doing that. Again, super nice, supremely capable rig.

Andy, what is the black strip on the counter top under the basket?
Chris,

That is a random piece of rubber non-slip drawer liner material just setting on top of the solid surface counter. We have found them to be effective in keeping certain items in place while on the move.
