2008 Tentrax - Awesome Trailer...possible trade??

Well,

I recently picked this trailer up, locally. We just had a new addition to our family, and we will need to increase our seating and gear hauling capacity before we venture out on the next overland trip. I had been looking into building/buying an M100/Bantam BTC3, but this trailer was very interesting and seemed to fit the bill.

A year and a half ago Amber and I spent 6 weeks and drove 11,000 miles exploring Baja to the southern tip, and the Western US. We had my FJ60 loaded with 2500 lbs of gear including a 12' Zodiac with a 25hp outboard. It was an unforgetable trip, and I can't wait for the next one! But, first, we need to reclaim the back seat and make more room for the boat, motor and other items in a trailer.

Anyway, after a month of checking out this really cool trailer (it is 1 year old, has most available options, was only used twice by the previous owner and was spec'd out at about $13k), I have decided that this trailer isn't quite right. It is truely a beautiful trailer. It pulls wonderfully and would haul a ton of gear. It is set up to match a new Jeep Wrangler - black would be a beautiful setup. My only complaint is that the interior dimensions will not quite fit the boat and/or motor. I was trying to figure out how to put the motor on the front of the trailer, or in the truck, but basically, there isn't room for it in a secure spot.

Anyway, after much deliberation, I think that I am back to my original plan of going with an M100/416/BTC3 setup for expedition use, or an Adventure Trailers Chaser. I wanted to post here to see if there is any interest in a trade. I would consider even trades or trades with some cash in either direction.

Here are several pictures:

While I don't have a trailer to trade, might I suggest that you list all the options installed and mention your location? Oh, and this should be in the For Sale section.

Cheers

For Sale Forum rules require an asking price. An asking Price has not been set because it is not for sale. I am new to Expedition Portal - a long-time participant on ih8mud - and I do not see the rules posted for the Expedition Trailer forum. I hope that the moderator will grant me a little slack, as it is clear that there are a lot of readers on this forum in the hunt for the perfect trailer for their needs. Maybe I can make someone a happy camper with a trade. :smiley_drive:

Thanks, Dan :victory:

Nice detail list. I'll let the mods sort out the specific forum. Now you have to get over to the Completed Trips forums and tell us all about your Baja trip. :costumed-smiley-007

Welcome.

:sombrero:Nice rig, too bad you don't mod it, for a little further use

Even loaded, mine has had no effect on two diff vehicles gas mileage and it will allow you to go anywhere and most important, get out of any terrain trouble-SINGLE HANDEDLY, yea I've unhooked mine and turned it around so I could get out of a very DEAD-END

I've modified the heck out of mine for my purposes and they're a wonderful trailer, kind of a corvette (quick in-quick out) trailer, compared to the expedition trailers ie; AT/Kamparo/campo/conquerer-

But you must do what YOU need to do for your enjoyment

No I'm not hijacking your thread, I'm trying to show what a versatile little gem these babys are and I feel you would be better off, if you modified yours for YOUR purposes

Good luck, mine will be with me till the tide really comes in

JIMBO,

All good comments. I agree that this is a really neat trailer. And, I can understand your appreciation for yours.

My problem is that after much consideration, I need an enclosed, secure place to store a 25 hp+ outboard motor AND a 12-14' inflatable boat. On the previous adventure, I stored the motor inside the truck. This simply is not possible when using the back seat.

And, after considerable thought, there is no way to get it in the trailer. I thought about putting it on the tongue rack, but decided that it would not be possible to adequately conceal/secure it in that location. And, it would likely have to be removed to fold out the top. Again, not particularly desirable.

Really neat trailer, but just can't figure out how to use it to meet our needs.

I guess I am more of an expedition trailer guy than a "corvette" guy...

Thanks,
Dan

I've got a 9 ft inflateable, that I keep inflated and I use a 5 spd MINI-COTA electric motor that fits in the trailer neatly, so I don't have extra gas, bulk or weight to carry

If you are GONE for extended periods of time I can understand your need for one of the EXPO trailers, of which the AT would be my pick

My TENTRAX is perfect for my 3 day 1 week trips and as I stated previously, I'm able to push it around, like a little red wagon ANYWHERE and that eases the worry, I used to have about traveling alone

Good luck

Jimbo, I couldn't agree more that this is a great trailer and really appreciate all your comments, you are helping to make my case...

A 9' inflatable with a Minn Kota won't cut it island hopping in the sea of cortez. I am acutally looking at upgrading to a 40 hp outboard for a little more range and water sports potential.

Thanks again,
Dan

Looks like you'll need alot of box and some kind of rack on top, plus tent. An AT could be modified to suit your needs or maybe a stock Conqueror Basecamp model? It has a substantial rack, large tent, nice kitchen, table, room for fridge, and a sizable box.
Might try to trade your Tentrax for cash and buy a new trailer...

Hilldweller,

Yep, that will be a final alternative - likely a little further along in the Spring when people are thinking more about camping... However, from previous experience, I have found that sometimes trades can make both parties better off!! I have made a few Dodge Power Wagon trades that turned out to be much better for both parties than two seperate unrelated sales and purchases!! Just thought that I would give it sometime to see if I can stir up any interest.

Ethan is only 9 weeks old, so the next trip to baja is still a little ways off. I have time to play with crazy ideas!!

Regards,
Dan

where are you at and what are you looking for cash money for that trailer? also what kind of deal would you consider on an M416 that has 1" lift springs (sprung under) that has a good rust free but somewhat dented tub? has an aftermarket axle (5 x4.5) and custom fenders that have been raised to help clear 33s better. I would like to keep the rims (they match the jeep) but the tires can be swapped. I wanted to modify my trailer to have a RTT, but am open to all options if your trailer is priced right. if your interested I'll get some recent photos of the trailer.

Roadkill,

I would be happy to look at your pictures and consider your trailer as a trade. It sounds like a good platform for what I would like to build. The trailer is located in Galena, MO.

You can email pictures to dshock59@yahoo.com, and we can talk possible deals offline.

Thanks,
Dan

Well guys, I have been spending a lot of time on the trailer forum on ih8mud, and on here collecting ideas for an expedition trailer suitable for our next trip down Baja. The bottom line is that while the Tentrax is an awesome trailer, there just isn't anyway to modify it for our purposes. So, it is looking like the Tentrax will be orphaned, for sure.

If you are interested send me a PM. If it is still around when the weather starts to warm up then it will go on ebay.

Thanks!

Dan
