Name is Trevor and I am new here and to the idea of expedition vehicles. Overlanding seems like soo much fun and would love to travel this beautiful country of ours. I am located in deep South Texas, soon to be moving to San Antonio fortunately.

My vehicle is my 2012 F150 FX4 with the 5.0L she's only 6 months old and sporting 15,000 miles. Not much for mods on her right now except a 2" level on the front. Looking to put 33-34" Toyo MTs on in the near future. Later down the road I would like to upgrade the suspension, just not quite sure which route I want to take right now. I will Probably put a Can-Back Camper on the back as well. Thats it for now, Thanks!

Unless you truly have a need for mud terrain tires on a regular basis, consider an all terrain tread...slightly improved fuel economy, and no highway whine for the 96% of the time you'll be on pavement rather than off road.

I had a Can Back style shell on my '01 GMC 2500, gave it to my team owner when I got my '06 and the slide in camper. Shell is still holding up.

Get out there and have some fun. We happen to have a campground right in the middle of our town. I like staying there as a shakedown every now and again to see if everything works. If you have something close where you can camp the first time, if you forget something/need something, the store is 5 minutes away. Nothing like being 50 miles from nowhere, the wind starts blowing and you realize you don't have tent stakes as your tent goes blowing away like a tumble weed!:sombrero:

Some sort of lost...
Good looking truck! I miss my 06 f150.
My only advice is to forget about the leveling kit and install a lift with drop brackets to correct front end geometry. I went through 3 steering racks in 50k miles on my 06 with 35s on a 2" leveling kit. The drivers side of the rack well end up with play as the tie rods are angled at 2"+. There is a bushing/sleeve or something inside the rack that easily wears out with that angle and will cause the front end to kick all over when you hit bumps and you're turning. I loved the truck and would buy another one in a heart beat, but it would either stay stock or get a real lift. Just my experience...

The level is just a temporary thing. I think I'm gonna go with the camburg 2.5 kit and some bits from Raptor Performance Group. Thanks for the advice guys!

Very nice truck. Might want to lose the side steps though if you plan on getting her dirty at all. They definitely sacrifice ground clearance. My friend has a new 5.0 truck as well and I was very impressed by the power it had. Enjoy the exploring.

I agree! I am going to either fab up some sliders/steps that hug the body a bit more or get a set of raptor steps.

Been a while since I've been on here, and not too much has been done to the truck. Recently added some 275-70-18 Toyo AT2s and a will soon have an AFE exhaust on it. Not sure what/if I am gonna do anything else or just get myself a project vehicle as a dedicated wheeler.

Still looks good. I hope you are adventuring the heck of it. You can do a whole lot in a 2wd without modification. This rig will take you all those places and more.

I'm planning on it now that I have useable tires. There are a few offroad parks in the Texas hill country that I need to try out and see how the truck preforms. Ultimate goal right now is to get it squared away for some camping and wheeling at Big Bend.

Went out with some buddies that have raptors and did a little run down the beach. Was able to keep up in my truck, but just barely. Good times

Got some wheels put on the truck. Next up is suspension work. Plans are Fox 2.5" front coils with camburg UCAs for the front. Rear plans are Alcan leaf springs with 2.5" lift to get rid of the rear axle spacer block and some Fox 2.5" Raptor take-off shocks.
