Hey guys I'm new to the xterra secene I'm looking at buy a 2012 xterra s with 65,000 miles on it. Was wanting to know if there's anything I need to look out for before I by it? Hopefully I will be a montero owner moving over to the xterra. My montero sr gave up the ghost this week. :/ I am pumped about having a new camping rig though.

4x4 or 2wd? I've got a 2012 S with 4x4 stock and I love it. We don't do much as far as overlanding but I love it. It takes us wherever we want to go. I bought mine with only a few thousand miles but I've had zero issues with it other than a nail through the tire. Its a heck of a vehicle. I think you'll be super happy with it. Check out thenewx.org for more community.

I've had my S since 2012. I like it quite a bit. Really wish I had the Pro4x just because of the locker but I haven't been in a situation yet where I needed a locker. With a 2 inch lift and 33 inch tires the thing feels nearly invincible.

First thing i would do in your shoes is to do the transition bypass and maybe add a external cooler and fan. That will save you 4k+ down the road

It was. No need to worry about the transmission bypass in a '12. Most of the 2nd gen 'bugs' were worked out by 2012. Your biggest issue will likely be the weak rear leaf springs. Depending on how much weight the previous owner(s) hauled regularly, these might need to be replaced or bolstered. If you planned on modifying the suspension (as I assume is the case, because who wouldn't!?!), then I wouldn't fret over the leafs.
