Uhhh...

Part of me says "Good spot. I never can get to that damn cubby anyways."

Part of me says "Bad spot... water always gets in there, and I put heavy stuff on top of it all the time."

And the daily driver part of me says "I wonder if this sub will actually finally make bass noticeable in the Jeep"

I put a heavy rubber mat down over that area and carry half the world on top of it....
hmmmmm

Why not just locate it under the passenger seat and declare victory already?

While I do carry gear in there... half the time I can't access it. With my LG TD I can't even open the tailgate enough to access that cubby. And I usually have so much crap in there, that it's a pita to access it. So for me, it wouldn't be that bad of a spot... but I do agree with the others above... under the pass seat... best of both worlds.

Wonder if the box could be lifted out of the cubby, and the harness lengthened to place it under the passenger seat?
In that case, it's better than my '14, which can only be removed, not refitted (without building a box). Also wouldn't require replacing that whole rear side panel (at the tune of about $130).

Personally, I'd rather have better long-throw 6.5" speakers up front, and eliminate the subwoofer completely, use the amp to drive the 6.5's.
Would like to hear the Alpine system in the '15. Really like the idea of eliminating the tombstones, and adding 3.5" speakers in the dash.

I prefer the storage box.

I personally can't tell the difference between a sound system with a sub woofer and one without. Just not something I am in to.

nothing is wrong with my hearing and I'm not an old man, well at least I don't think so. Only 37. Even when a was a teen or in my 20s wasn't something I cared about.

+1 (except I am old, and crotchety, and ornery too)

80% of the music is above the octaves covered by a subwoofer, and the enjoyable part of that can be reproduced by long throw 6.5s, while preserving the sound stage.
We would have been better off with a pass-through on the amp.

I'm guessing some aged executive looked at the product team and said, "... here's two shiny quarters boys. You run along now, and add one of them sub-speaker things, to get the kids in the show room". ;)

LFEs.... :sombrero:

Was more important in my Power Wagon when watching a DVD on the surround sound. Ricky Bobby really sounded like he was racing around in that truck.
But I do like a good sub or 3.

You said you couldn't tell the difference. I hope you know I'm just giving you crap.

I agree with you about not caring about booming bass, that's why all I want is a small powered sub under the passenger seat to add a little range.

Just thought I would chime in here...

I did a little experiment last week in the shop. I took a 2015 and tested the sound quality with and without our Cargo Liner installed. There was barely any difference in sound quality. Obviously, this still does not address the storage cubby issue...but for anyone concerned about the subwoofer getting damaged, wet, muddy, etc. I would not hesitate to put a cargo liner over it.

With that being said, our Cargo Liner is somewhat soft, so a more rigid liner may yield different results.

Btw, the 2015 sound system rocks. The two additional speakers in the soundbar make a huge difference in clarity.

Cheers!

not familiar with the old system, but I can confirm the bass in my 2015 JKUR is very surprisingly good. and yeah, not major difference with a rubber mat covering the sub, and the protective screen is plenty sturdy enough for setting items on top of it.

Does anyone know if the 2015 sub will fit in the cubby of a pre-2015?

I'm considering doing this to fit a larger drawer where the 2014 subwoofer is. I'd like to keep a subwoofer since that's how the system is designed. I don't think having a mat or drawer on top of a subwoofer would change the sound much. It's probably more about vibration than actual sound.
