What is the purpose of the "Green Diamonds"? On their website it states they are more environmentally friendly... how is that possible?.. little shards of plastic...?

Great price though...

They claim the 'Green diamonds' greatly improves traction in icy conditions, a big problem for mudders, or any tire for that matter. They compared and reportedly perform better than Blizzacks which in numerous studies are THE best specialty tire for the purpose. Blizzacks should not be run dry roads or higher speeds as they are an extreme design for extreme conditions. I've run into first hand reports which claim these are an unbelievably and incredibly awesome ice and snow tire. So these 'green diamond' folks are making an ambitious claim.

I'm thinking of trying these instead of the hard and very skinny Yokohama 7.00R15 which rely on higher PSI of a small contact patch. Soft compounds stay softer in cold weather maintaining deformation. Traction adding particles, and siping are all proven devices and designs inwhich impove traction in most other conditions as well as ice and snow. Theory has it that a wider tire with with these may impove traction given a appropriate wieght of a vehicle. It is all about deformation and mechanical keying. (See Scott's white paper) These are an interesting and inexpensive idea. Suggest exploring their site.

It's good to be wary of anything new, and research the heck out of it. The neat thing about these carbide and Aluminum oxide particles (Green 'Diamonds') is that they can help a MT style tire grip on ice sorta like a studded tire. The tire compound is hard enough to last 40 to 45,000 miles they say, yet works very well on ice. The particles are distributed through out the compound and so are present though out the life of the tread. This advantage is not found with studded or sipped tires which loose their effectiveness once worn, say half way. Of more interest to guys up north, one can run MT's year round, in the snow and desert. However, sizes and styles are limited to only a few. This is a relatively new product here.

Here are the MT's and 2 other styles better suited for snow conditions, and they look good!

Although nothing bad has been found about High-tec-re
treading's tires yet, it appears these are a lower cost retread and lower quality (IMHO), as the entire case is not scrubbed to the bead as is done with the recap's sold by the other Green Diamond tire outfits who get them from a factory in Nova Scotia and now emerging plants in the US. These better quality tires are twice the price. The Green diamond compound can only be used by recapping it onto a used casing. Invented in Iceland, and used Sweden, which has high standards of safety, as well as northern Europe in general, they are now catching on here:

Other reviews scattered on the web, compare with Nokian's and Blizzacks, are all favorable. The stand out advantage is studded performance (THE bench mark), long winter service life and year round utility. I suspect no other MT styled tire could come close.

Because they are recycling a tire casing, it can be considered a 'green product', hence the 'green' in Green Diamonds.

Well, I am sold on it and plan to try out a set in a few months. I will report on what I think of them after a few thousand miles.:chowtime:

JP magazine tested the retreads on a rig, they gave it a mid of the road rating, said they did better than they really expected of them, and had fun running them. They also said they were quieter on the road than many MT tires.

Pulled the article, JP magazine April 2007. Street 3 out of 4 rating, sand 2 out of 4, mud 2 out of 4, heavy rock 2 out of 4. "We liken owning a set of High-Tec tires to getting into Disneyland on half price day. You're not to upset if you don't get on every ride, but it's a bonus if we got on all the roller coasters- and we got on all the roller coasters. We were extremely surprised at how much performance we mustered out of a dirt cheap set of MTs. Street noise moderate to low, and mud and sand performance was dead midddle of the pack. They proved to be an all-around good performing tire that were fun to run.
