So I want too swap my 249 in my 5.9 limited for a 242 out of a Laredo my question is has anybody had issues with the 242 out of the 4.0 Laredo not bolting up in the 5.9 limited or any other issues for that matter if you have experience with this swap I would be very grateful for Some insight from your experience..

It really depends on what year the ZJ or XJ the 242 was pulled from was. If its pulled from a 96+ the 242 will have a 23 spline .840 input shaft and you will have no problems with it bolting up. All Jeep NP / NV transfer cases of that era use a 6 bolt mounting circle, its the input shaft length / spline count you have to be aware of.

This thread has all you need to know and more.

As whaleinafishbowl mentioned, as long as you match up the t-case years your input shafts will be fine. You may need to swap them over to fit, but I think the post on JF goes over that in detail. I swapped the 249 out of my ZJ for a 231 back in '03 or '04 I think so I'm a bit rusty on some of the details but I'll be needing to do it on my 5.9 before winter comes.
