270 vs Standard Awning

I’m torn between which route to go on my Tacoma. Is the additional cost worth a 270? Also since screenrooms are few and far between on a 270 awning, would I be happier with a standard awning with screen room? The Carolinas can get a little buggie

If bugs are your concern then a standard awning will seal up to the taco better....but get the biggest awning possible as space is great to have.
I love my Darche 270 awning with walls but there is no way to keep bugs out between the back wall and truck and the front arm and truck.

I was at a camping event this weekend with hundreds of people camping. I was walking around checking out all the options. Of all the really cool and creative things i saw an ARB basic awning with 3 walls looked to be the coolest setup. Two guys in a 4-runner were just chilling in their chairs with screened side walls. It impressed with it's simplicity and ease of setup. The only problem is it had room to chill but not room to have a full kitchen setup. I think you would need to do something custom to seal it up all the way for bugs though.

James Baroud makes a screen room for their 270 awning, which will likely need customization to keep the east coast style bugs from ruining your weekend.

A wise buddy said once that "you can never have enough shade in the desert." As a desert boy this was a very profound statement that had occurred to be, but never articulated. I ran an ARB awning for a few years. In the desert it was never enough, and I had camo netting that I draped off the sides to give more coverage. Fast forward and the ARB is sold, and replaced with a Batwing. There is no going back. At some point I will get the extensions to improve my coverage even more.

I love my 270 Batwing. I was stuck in 36 hours of non stop rain on a trip and I legit enjoyed myself and kept dry walked around and cooked. It completely transformed rain into a still enjoyable experience. I can set it up in literally less than 30 seconds. I use it for quick lunch stops all the time. Given the small coverage area of normal awnings it seems like a no brainer to have more coverage for less effort. With a regular awning it doesn't take much wind while raining or much of a shift in the sun to take away your shelter with a regular awning. With a 270 not so much. I will say some of the newer 270's coming out seem to have really small footprints which completely defeats the point of a 270 in my opinion.

I've had my Fiamma F45 atop my UZJ100 for more years than I can remember. I went with it because it was super fast to deploy/put away, rugged aluminum shell, etc., etc. and it has not disappointed. I have rigged up my own canvas side panels for wind buffer & additional shade. Works. Recently I was thrown into shopper-itus once again when shopping for an awning for our new to us Escape 15A.

I thought I wanted a 270 for this trailer but after spending judicious amount of time and energy and not coming up with what I felt was a true long term solution I bought a new Fiamma F65s 320cm length traditional awning. Its certainly a different awning application than a truck, but at the end of the day I just didn't want to deal with a fabric, zippered cover apart of every 270 I checked out. And none of the 270 choices offered complete shade for the long side of the trailer. So now I'll have a true 10' wide and 10' long patch of shade & rain protection. And no zipper to keep clean and lubed which is an even bigger factor being in the tow dust stream of the LandCruiser.
