285/75/16 montero 3rd gen. Might not fit

I read in multiple threads that 285/17/16 fit the 3rd gen montero fine with no lift. Well I just had my local tire shop mount some bfg ko2s and they told me they didn't feel comfortable with it after mounting the front tire because it has barely has 1/8" clearance when the wheel is turned at both the front fender/ bumper, and rear fender/ lower mud guard area. I had them do it anyway and am planning to see what I need to do to trim those areas. It even seems like with a 1-2" lift you would run into the same issue when turning. Anyone else have this problem? I'll update with how it turns out. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1450809610.294390.jpg

So the tires do "fit" but when turning they come so close to hitting the inner fender. I can't imagine it wouldn't make contact when turning and flexing and doing all the various off road maneuvers. I would love to hear from some people running this size tire.

I just removed a small lower mud flap and it looks like I'll have to trim the lower part of the front bumper. Well that or switch to 265/75/16 tires.

If you end up switching, let me know. I have some 265/75/16. They're Hankook Dynapro ATMs.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
Anyone remember when tire shops wouldn't mount 31's to a Gen 1 Montero?

Just clearance them as you go, they'll fit and since you are full independent suspension it doesn't matter how much of a suspension lift you have the swing is the same so you need to do whatever clearance is necessary with no lift as there is with the available 1.5-2" lift if you plan on using your truck offroad. I suggest you trim the plastic and run the big tires, get wheel spacers if you rub the inner fender or just bash that metal in.

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.
They look great!

The clearance issue is a worry, especially if you run chains.

I've stuck to the 265/75/16.
I'm also running an OME suspension.
Since the rig has all four chained up during winter trips, I've always worried about compression clearance with chains if I went with the bigger tire.
