3.73 or 4.30 gears for F350 carrying Scout Kenai?

go by crawl ratio. I’ve got a E-450 based camper with 4.63 gears, 2.40 first gear and I think the transfer case low is 2.72. That gives me a crawl ratio of about 33:1. In order to get into the torque curve, I need to be above a walking pace which is uncomfortable on rutted tracks with a lot of weight swinging side to side.

I’m not an expert, but if I could, I’d want a 40:1 or better.

In a big, heavy rig, being able to go slow without clutch or torque converter heating up a lot is really important.
