Is the FSM (likely a set) for these prohibitively expensive?

I'm finding them to blow the much vaunted Bentley Manuals for VW's out of the water in terms of usefulness and clarity.

I have wanted to buy the factory manuals but have procrastinated and not really needed them yet. The Haynes option will be a nice, probably inexpensive option.

haynes is wonderful to throw under the seat of the truck. it will get you through most repairs, esp ones to be completed on the side of the road or trail. however, there is NO replacement for the FSM. toyota manuals are great, and are expensive. but as is usually the case, you really do get what you pay for. they are worth their weight in gold!

I haven't yet done it myself, but supposedly you can download the repair manuals from Toyota for a nominal price. It is apparently a pain because they are broken down into innumerable pdf files, but a subscription to do so is only $15 for 2 days of access to the server. http://techinfo.toyota.com/

There is a rumor that for 2006 or later models the manuals are only in HTML, not PDF, though I have not been able to confirm that. For $15, I'll find out sooner or later.

Here is an older link to a discussion of the Toyota tech website on toyota-4runner.org: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?threadid=261&perpage=15&pagenumber=2
