4th Gen 4Runner tire size - 265/70 big enough?

I'm trying to plan out how I'll progress/finish my 4Runner's build, and am conflicted on tire size. I currently have 265/70R17 Terra Grapplers on the truck, with only 15,000 miles or less on them. I like them, they seem to work well in everything except deep/wet snow (they just turn into icy donuts.) I just can't figure if they're going to be big enough in the long run.

I have a 2.5/1.5 spacer lift on the truck now, soon to be a 3" Toytec Ultimate. Will the 265/70's look too small, and feel too small after the lift? I'm considering going with 255/80R17's instead, but would love to allocate those funds elsewhere if I can.

Uses will be more backcountry expedition travel, not much hardcore rock crawling. Any help/thoughts appreciated!

Im torn on mine, I have 275/70/17's now. I like the size but want to go a bit skinnier. Im thinking a 255/75/17 or 255/80/17. Im not sure I want to go all the way to the 80, just because it adds another inch of height over what I have now. I fell im about maxed with what I tow and my truck weight without re gearing. The 265's look a little small, but may be a good compromise between size and efficiency

keep your tires and lift as small as you can for what you do with it. Armor the bottom ideally before you start to scrape. You'll save wear/tare and money.

Most of the tails out there (in my area anyhow) are fine with a stock vehicle. 33", lift and armor opens up a few more. 35", lift, armor and lockers opens up a couple more percent. After that is buggy/heavy mods territory for the final 1 percent of the trails. Just gotta ask yourself where you are interested in going or seeing.

I've been pleased with my Radflo 2.5's (Overland Warehouse Spec) and 255/75/17 Cooper AT3's. I went with that size as it was the tallest that I could fit in the stock spare location. I think the tires look proportional (they're on 1.5" spacers). I'd love to have gone up to 255/80/17's but it's the compromise that I was happiest with (ie I don't want to put a spare on the roof, cargo area, or on a swing arm). I have a six-piece compliment of BudBuilt skids, as well as additional armor components underneath -- seems to do the trick for what I do which is not hardcore rock crawling or anything...

I wouldn't replace them until they start to limit what you want to do. You'll go a lot of places with a 3" lift and those tires. I don't think it will look stupid, but looks are a personal preference. Desest Dan's rig looks pretty sweet to me!
