5.11 pants...knee pocket insulation tip

Yesterday we had a break in our weather, no ice/snow on the roads so I thought I would ride the KLR into work...still a bit of a chill in the am with temps of 22-25F in the am but 45+F for the ride home.

This got me thinking about my poor old knees hanging out in the wind (my boots, jacket, gloves, and helmet/throat fleece take care of the rest and I did not want to wear long johns or MX pants in)...I had some left over Reflectix insulation (3/16" thick, flexible foil faced "air pocket" type stuff) and was going to wear 5.11 pocket pants....so I cut some of the Reflectix to fit into the knee pockets (turn 5.11 pants inside out...knee area has inside pocket for knee pads).

Verdict: Reflectix rocks...and I am very cheap!

Good armored motorcycle gear will keep you warm as well as protect your bits in a biff. I used to wear straight coveralls in cold weather, but the protection those offer in an at-speed get-off are nil compared to what's available, and the stuff that's available is much warmer as well.

Olympia, Firstgear, Klim... lots of companies are making gear worth looking into..

Nothing beats real motorcycle gear

But, even though I have every thing from race leathers, full textile touring gear, summer MX gear, and commuter stuff (owned a Ducati dealership until last June) I still wear my Wrangler Riggs with Kevlar fronts, and my Arbor Wear pants when riding the 4 miles to work.
