7.3 cutting out at highway speeds. HELP!!

I was driving on the interstate and my van started sputtering and losing power. It wouldn't die, just lose all power.

I made it to the dealership. They checked it out, and couldn't pull any codes. They test drove it, said it was fine.

Then I drove 2 hours home with no problem. The other day it started doing it again. Now I can't get above 50 without it doing it.

I bought a code scanner and it's not showing anything.

I don't know what to do. And also it had a new CPS in it.

My van is a 99 e350 7.3 psd.

Is the CPS an International part (gray color)? Some of the NAPA and aftermarket CPS's are crap. Try replacing it if it's not an International part.

Also, have you checked your fuel filter?

I just changed my fuel filter about 1,000 miles ago.

The CPS was replaced by Ford 2 months ago. So it was a Ford part.

I am going to check my fuel pump in the tank, I guess?

I had a 2000 that the valve cover harness came partially unplugged. No codes. I zip tied it back together.

Today I dropped the tank. This was inside:

I cleaned the tank. Put fuel back in it. Made it 2 miles down the road, and she died.

Had to tow it. So we will see what the dealership says.

Fuel filter? If that was in the tank imagine what the filter must be like! Just a guess I am not a skilled mechanic, I just know you will be happier with a nice clean filter.

I'm sure it needs changed. I bet it's going to cost me $1,000 at the Ford stealership.

They're saying at the dealership that it's the fuel pickup in the tank. And it's going to cost me $1200 to fix.

Drop the tank again and pull the pickup tube out. I had 305,000 miles when mine quite, dropped the tank and the filter assembly was plugged. Cleaned both filters, blew out the lines, reprimed and fired her up...gobs more power.

If you look on YouTube, there's videos there.

Good luck.

Check out threads in this section under my name. I had the same issue. Got rid of the in tank filters and mixer. Put in an inline filter just before the fuel pump and it's all good to go.
