7 weeks in the western US

After being back from a 7 weeks vacation here are some of the highlights :

starting in Hesperia,Ca we drove north via Ridgecrest along Trona pinacles, Hunter mountain, Racetrack, Lippincott pass into Saline Valley where we stayed some time at the hot springs (110-115F).

Out via Steel pass, Eureka dunes then leaving Death Valley NP heading NE mainly using smaller back country roads. Up in UT 4 days White Rim trail, this time in counter clock wise direction, still very hot (at least for someone who is used to terrible German weather).

and here we go.....

After that we spend a while in the San Rafael Swell (Petroglyphs, little Grand Canyon, Dinosaure quarry), Goblin valley, heading south via Capitol reef NP, Escalante into Grand Staircase - stop in Page to visit a friend and going on to Vermillion Cliffs.

On our way back south we did some trails in the Desert National Wildlife Range north of Las Vegas before going into Mojave National Preserve (found some trails closed), the last 2 week where spend around Lake Isabella and in the High Sierra.

We enjoyed the trip very much and cant wait to come back next year.

Very nice pics! Glad you made it back safely. You visited some of my favorite places in the country. Did the Bronco hold up well? Not as roomy as what you're used to, but maybe easier to drive on the road. More pictures (I know you have some):wings:

Tecate :wings: - no (just some in the evening), drinking a lot, thanks to a good compressor box and insulating cover for the drinking bottles we always had cold icetea at hand. Hiking was only possible in the mountains with breaks during the biggest heat and as the air is very dry i find it more comfortable at 100F and 20% humidity than mid 80th and 80%.

about heat:
We have run White Rim during a heatwave, without AC in the truck. Hydrate, AND electrolytes, and cover up like a beduin. (for dry heat). That way your own evap cooling stays for a while (cotton TShirt, and cotton longsleeveshirt layered, long pants, bandana around the neck, hat, etc.) its very nice, as we had the trail to share with only one other vehicle the whole 3 nights. (The hiker we found, good thing we carry extra water just for those).

about heat: cover up like a beduin. (for dry heat).

that is an essential - we did lots of traveling in the north African deserts and are pretty familiar with this kind of hot/dry climate (and love it - definitly no jungle-type)
