80 Series A/C issues at low idle

Lately, we have had several 100+ degree days. My AC runs fine when cruising at speed, but at idle it falls flat on its face. I can't imagine this normal. Anyone else have this issue?

I just read something on this on i8mud.... fan clutch is what I think I remember reading.... but I would search there!

Normal, unless you've modded your fan clutch. Just because your coolant temps are fine, does not mean that enough air is flowing past your condensor (which sits a couping inches in front of your radiator) to properly disperse the heat.

Mod your fan clutch, and check your heater valve (located on firewall under hood) to make sure it's fully closed. Most are left open to some degree, due to improper adjustment of the heater control cable.

See above links for more info/how-to.

If you don't want to mod your own fan clutch, you can purchase a pre-modded unit, here:

Did the heater valve mod - actually just disconnected the cable from the valve - WOW! This was an amazing mod. 8 seconds of work and my idle AC temps are nice and frosty. Thanks for the tip!

Holy crap! If you live in the south, go do this RIGHT now. At full blue, mine was open 2/3. My AC is easily 10 degrees cooler now.
