80's - Landtank's MAF mod

Has anyone here on ExPo used this? Seems like quite a lot of money for 1 mpg gain and the ever nebulous perception of smoother running. The housing is $250 and the proper MAS is about $140 (I'm in Alaska where the very used sometimes costs more than new with shipping :Wow1:) and it requires mod'ing the wire connector to the sensor. Yes, yes, yes, I have read mud articles on it. Sometimes those are more like a bad memory of kindergarten than informative. Interested in ExPo opinions.

Schattenjager...again, I have this mod and have for about 2.5 years. It works very well smoothing out the idle, as well as the acceleration. I did see mileage gains of about 1mpg, maybe slightly more. The amount of mileage I put on my rig a year, I have paid mine off. It is truly a great mod for the 80 Series.

My .02 cents

My LX450 has one installed by the previous owner. I don't really have anything to compare it too, but combined with a custom exhaust, the throttle response it great. It feels like it wants to accelerate well, but the car is so dang heavy that it's just not that impressive. I also removed the air intake restrictor in the fender, and if I keep the speed under 65 I can get 17 mpg easy, fully loaded with an ARB bumper and 285/75/16's. On the downside, the Tercel MAF, or whatever it is, is more susceptible to dirt than the original, which leads to a lean run situation, which is probably why Toyota designed the original the way they did in the first place.

I've got the Landtank MAF on my '96 80 as well, but no real baseline to compare it to as the engine is now far from stock (4.6L, supercharged, intercooled). In that configuration though, I can say that it works great. I'm certainly not getting 17 mpg under any circumstances in this heavy beast, but the power is pretty impressive.
