Oh please leave the main shifter. Being super high like that reminds me of those ape hangers on harleys lol!

It's quite possible I'll just bend the shifter over a bit so it stops smashing my hand into the steering wheel in 1st. Thats the plan, I just have to see how the SUPER long throw shifts work out once my seat is in position and I'm all strapped in. It's going to have an old school kinda theme going on with it. The truck is going to stay true to it's heritage in some shade of brown or tan, just like it should be. With a silly shifter and stack, it'll all work out :smiley_drive:

Oh man, a cummins in a toyota, soooooooo sweet.

Do you know what the torque/bhp are for that motor with that turbo (crank numbers)?
I always see the 4bt as being used for most lighter swapped applications but have never seen any numbers on it.

OH GOD!!!! That's so sweet!!!! Is this the same one over on Yotatech??? Lots of Diesel swaps creeping out into the spotlight. Oh how I dream of the day that I too can glow (although not on Cummins motor's cause they don't have glow-plugs), fire and clack away into the sunset... Can't wait to see some pics of this thing in action.

Cheers

Well factory is 105hp with 270ish. I'm hoping for 150/330ish. I plan on very mild injectors and pump tuning to start with. I went with the Garrett because no one I know of has done a ball bearing turbo on a 4bt. I will have dyno numbers once it's up and running. I really want to see how the thing scoots before I get too crazy adding fuel, as mileage is a concern for overlanding. I'd love to get 25+ mpg, which seems entirely possible. That'll warrant me 550 miles between fillups with the fuel cell I have.

Nope not the same one from yotatech. I'm only aware of three SAS Toyotas with 4BT's. One being me, one being built by Tennessee Diesel Conversions, and one that was completed but never road worthy. I'm sure there are more but none that I've found. The folks on pirate and yotatech were not huge fans of the cummins last I was around those boards, Something about weight, hahah :Wow1: Go figure. She's got the weight distribution of a lawn dart, but I can live with it. The engine is as low and far back as possible, hell the bell housing is damn near in the cab, and loaded down for a trip it'll be "closer" to evened out. They're big fans of the much lighter Mercedes and Toyota diesels, understandably so for weight but not for power. I figure if I'm going through all this to build my truck why not use a engine that can completely destroy drive line components in the middle of nowhere and leave me stranded. I mean....uhhh, I should have got those custom Dana 60's.:Mechanic: Haha, It's an experiment in Toyota axle durability. Even staying sane with the skinny pedal, all that torque, a granny 1st gear, and low-range, is going to be interesting; I have spare birfs now, need some spare hubs...... Hopefully I won't be calling Bobby Long for Longfields just yet. But in all reality this isn't a crawler, I'm building my iteration of a stripped trail/expo truck, maintaining drivebility, while adding capability and function.

Cool so this is ANOTHER 4BT swap. NICE, I love it. I think that while the 60 may eventualy be the good choice, you're going to be suprised at the strength of the Toyota axle. Some say that it's is comparable to the D60 in alot of ways I know Ring gear diameter is different but it is one tough "little" axle. The Birf's will be your biggest issue, but ad some Logfields and forget about it.

Can't wait to see what this turns into as you build it, and I really can't wait to hear your impressions after you get to drive it.

Cheers

I'm trying to keep a controlled weak link in the driveline, something that I can pop and replace on the trail if need be. It's going to be interesting to see what that turns out to be. Those pictures are all a bit dated the front suspension is almost done now, the rear axle and links are all bed lined....

I'm really excited to drive it, I never drove the truck on the street before I ripped the 22R out. I took it for a few laps around my buddys yard and that was it....
