85 2wd to 4wd?

I remember a thread on a 90's- something Tacoma, but what's the deal on converting an older truck to 4wd?

The frame on my 85 4runner is solid but the body is pretty much toast.

Is the front half of the drivetrain from a pick-up identical? Were there any 2wd 4runners?

How about a pick-up cab- if I can find one- on a 4runner chassis?

That's pretty much what I was thinking, only I was thinking WA because I would have places to stay. Am I going to find a nice 4x4 Hilux or 4Runner in either place for say, $1500?

Seems like lot's of nice 2wd's around that price.

Plus, I get the solid axle w/o having to look around.
