Hello! I’m at a point in my life where the time has come to sell some of my toys. Right now that consists of a 64 21 Window VW Van, a 2003 Land Cruiser ready for a build, and my sweetest ride my 87 VW Westfalia Syncro TDI. During the summer, we are spending more time on the boat and less time camping. Add in the kids school schedules Soccer in the fall and spring and the off-road and overland toys are barely getting used.. This ad is specific to the Syncro but drop me a line if you want to dicuss the Land Cruiser or 64 VW. I will post an Ad up on the LC in seperate post

Vehicle Background: (Syncro)
1987 Westfalia Syncro. TDI Conversion. 206,650 Miles all noted work done in the last 25-30,000 miles...
4WD with Rear Locker

This van is an original Westy Syncro, not a Westy that was converted to a Syncro or a Syncro converted to a Westy. It does have a TDI conversion, Overland Parts 0 miles engine and chipped ECU.
I bought this van from Sean Frasier at Transporter werks in 2008. (http://transporterwerks.com/) He bought it from the original owners son with about 162,000 miles on it. Bone stock syncro. At that time, we had both bought Overland parts 1.9L TDI Pumpe Dusse PD BEW engines, mine for a 2WD Westy. Since I had just sold my 2WD and was looking for a new van, to drop the TDI, I decided to step up and buy this Syncro.

I will try to list out everything that has been done but for the most part I have constantly updated and improved the mechanicals and functionality since day one.
This van rides like a dream. A ton of power, great gas mileage, and the engine has been extremely reliable. The only issues were early on in the conversion with the ECU programming. Once we worked that through with Overland, it has been great.

I have done so much to this ride that I am bound to forget something but here is the list..

=> Overland Parts 1.9L BEW TDI conversion. 0-mile engine now has @ 25-30,000 miles -- spare ECU included
=> Big brake upgrade with disks in the rear
=> New GoWesty Drive Shaft
=> Rebuilt Transmission with Engine install. Rancho rebuilt it again around 3,000 miles ago, warranty claim
=> Transmission Temp sensor and Gauge
=> Transmission cooler and pump with manual switch on dash
=> Second battery set up with 4 33 Ah AGM batteries
=> NOCO Gen1 10A Marine battery charger
=> Truckfridge 12 V Fridge
=> 215/70 R 16 Yokohama Geolanders
=> AT Italia Rims
=> OME Shocks
=> Schwenk Syncro lift Springs http://www.syncro.org/schwenksprings/syncro_springs.html probably the best suspension upgrade I have done!
=> SA Headlight upgrade
=> Smoked Turn signals
=> LED interior lights upgrade
=> New Gowesty Drive Shaft
=> Tire Carrier
=> GoWesty Bumpers with tow hitch
=> Trailer lights hook up
=> Black Gowesty front door ABS panels
=> New Windshield spring 2014
=> JVC Stereo with Sirrus
=> Crutchfield @7/14
=> In the front http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P65C/Sound-Ordnance-P-65C.html?tp=106
=> In the back http://www.crutchfield.com/p_777P57/Sound-Ordnance-P-57.html?tp=93
=> GoWesty Poptop Canvas and seal (Grey 3 window)

=> GoWesty Sholder Belts for back

=> Ultratec Van cover http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=4495&category_id=266&category_parent_id=
=> GoWesty Printed Curcuit Board dash replacement kit (Not installed yet was going to be a winter project)
=> Metal Screen inserts for front windows so they can be open with no bugs
=> New Wiper Arm kit
=> 300W LED Light Bar on front bumper
=> Custom rock sliders and side steps

What else?
=> Dash is clean with no cracks
=> AC is cold, to damn cold at times. I have a hose that runs up the driver side and dumps the air right on my head ;-)
=> Steering wheel is in great shape; I did the leather wrap
=> Seats and padding are in great shape
=> Paint, mostly original in 2014 I dealt with some seam rust, had that fixed and painted.
=> Water tank and sink all work
=> Removed the propane as I never really cooked inside. Young kids that like to play with knobs and having a 2 lb propane tank under the van while off-roading just never seemed a good idea...

To Do:
=> needs a new heater valve http://www.gowesty.com/ec_view_details.php?id=3386
Pain to do and I just have not needed to do it. I have a heater cutoff value under the front and have that turned off, and it doesn't leak.

=> The front blower has gone, at first I thought it was the switch, but it is the blower. I have a spare blower switch. Blower went this summer and was going to be another winter project...

=> Did and after market key fob when the electric locks went. Locks work key FOB recently stopped not sure why was going to look at this with the above items this winter

This is a couple $100 worth of effort...

Overall this has been a great vehicle. I will also include the camping trailer that has a custom made Tempurpedic mattress and AC. I flipped the axle on the trailer, so it sits level with the van and gives some better off road clearance. The trailer was $3,200 and is about 2 years old. I use this as intended for off-road and camping. Thus, there are some small scratches but no dings or damage. If the scratches got bad, I would have them painted over at the shop to keep the rust at bay.

I am asking $78,000 and that includes the trailer. I have asked three VW folks that own or work on Syncro's and all were in agreement that this was a good price considering everything the van has and the shape. Consider that the TDI kit alone was $12,000, add in the upgrades and the price seems about right. If you want something, that is truly ready to drive and forget about take a look...

I have put together an album here of recent pictures and ones from over the years as it was built out.

Wow, what an awesome machine. How I would love to drive one of these around the world!

Out of curiosity, what kind of mileage do you get?

GLWS!

Thanks so much Dan! Sad to put her up for sale but the time is right...

Of course, it depends on the several things with essentially a box going down the road. But,for the most part, I have gotten well into the mid 20's, pulling the trailer and the AC running. That was doing mostly 65 mph and some 70 plus when passing. Off road the tank last forever drop it in the granny gear and she just crawls all day without even touching the accelerator. Considering when it was stock you could not run the AC and think about passing it has been a great combo of power and gas milage
