99 Tacoma with Rev Tech 3" lift - thoughts?

ANy experience with the rev tech option? There is a nice rig for sale here that has the 3" RT lift. Wasn't sure if it was worth looking at or not.

There is nothing special with Revtek but nothing wrong with them either. It rides like a typical spacer lift. Though my experience was with a 4runner, I'm sure it's pretty much the same. Spacer lifts are kind of like a "tried one, tried them all type of affair.

Spacer lifts aren't great. They are also easy to replace with a real suspension lift. Don't let the lift hold you back on the purchase. Don't let it raise the price of the vehicle either.

Here is what I am looking at:

"4X4 TRD 137,000 miles, 3" Rev Tech Lift, Snug Top Canopy, Brute force air intake, CD, billet grill, New wind shield, clutch, cv joints and boots, u joints, Toyo M55 tires 99% and Ultra Wheels. "

Rig is reportedly very clean. Seems a bit high, but for the right truck... I just cannot afford to make a mistake right now and will not buy new again until after I hit the lottery.

To me anyway, the lift, cold air intake and billet grill would all be negatives not positives. Firstly these are all kind of dubious modifications, and secondly I would prefer to find a bone stock vehicle the was driven to the hardware stores on weekends then one that has been futzed with.

However beyond that the specs look good, it has reasonable mileage for the age and some necessary work done. Make sure to get documentation of the timing belt and water pump at 90,000 as well.

How much are they asking? It's nice to already have a bit of lift on there so that's good even if it's not what you really want. You can just change it when funds allow it.

I would pass just because of the mods...doesn't inspire confidence in the previous owner(s).

Did you ask why the cv's and ujoints just got replaced?

my $.02

IMHO there is nothing at all, wrong with a spacer lift,, I ran spacers on my 4runner for about 4 years, and wheeled the piss out of it, they are cheaply priced for the lift you need for larger tires.

If you`re not going to wheel it hard, Id leave it.

As far as the CVs, many times you put a lift on a rig, it will pull at the CV boots, leaking grease, and some would rather replace the whole CV, being it may seem to be just easier. but thats another thread, lol

Just got back from a four hour round trip to se the truck - passed - it had been wrecked and not perfectly repaired, was leaking coolant from behind the timing cover and 'felt' like a higher mileage truck. Looked awesome from 15 feet, however. Nice guy, but no deal...
