Couple of sources some people may not have:
A maker of customizable rear A/C systems is Danhard in texas. They do sportsmobile, ambulances, RVs. They actually encourage installing the parts and then having an A/C guy charge up the system. I haven't checked the price, but I'm sure its more than a roof unit. The correct units are under 120v. Some parts of the 120v system runs on 12v. I'm pretty sure their products are better than their marketing and website design.

(NOT danfoss the german 12v compressor maker)
But speaking of Danfoss -
Make your own frig/freezer. Isotherm sells kits that includes everything but the insulated box. I'm not sure I would want to make a refrigerator. But making a freezer chest under a bench is a definite possibility. This would allow me to install a dometic refrigerator only unit that has a lot more room without that dumb freezer at the top. Make sure your looking at air cooled unit. Water cooled units are boat only.
