A Maggiolina RTT on an FJ40

Hi Everyone!

I'm considering getting a small Air Top Maggiolina, as a RTT , on an FJ40.

I've read that Jonathan Hanson, from the Over Land Journal, is using a Maggiolina on his FJ40. However, I haven't been able to find his review of this setup.

I've spoken with Mike S, from AutoHome - And he's been extremely helpful.

Does anyone here use a Maggiolina RTT on their FJ40? I'd appreciate hearing any direct experience, or opinions &/or feedback re: such a setup.

TIA!

Cheers!

I used my Mag on my BJ70...which wasn't too much bigger than the 40. No problems whatsoever....

Any other specific questions?

Thanks H!

What roof rack do you use? I'd like to get something lite & low profile.

My rooftop dimensions are appx 69" front to back,... & 57" side to side. The Magg I'm looking at (small AirTop) measures 83" in length, so there will be some overhang. Also, my rear door is a lift up hatch. Do you have any overhang problems?

Also, would love to see some pics,.. if not a hassle.

Thanks again for the reply - I'm a newbie & appreciate the info!

Cheers!

A pic is worth 1000 words....

I've used Yakima A-Towers and others, usually put three bars underneath with no problemo. I'm sure you could locate the tent so that the rear hatch would open....

I am really curious about this as well. When finalizing my build sheet with Proffitt's I was thinking about doing a roof-rack on the truck, but John advised against it as he said he ran one for awhile and it ended up cracking his rain-gutters where it attached to the roof and causing leaks. I have better vehicles in the fleet for RTT's, but I am curious as to what loads and issues people have come up with running equipment or tents up top.

Thanks!

I've run Yakima A towers, or other gutter mounts, on my 40s, 45 Troopy, 60 and 80 series rigs without issues. Max roof load, distributed over 6 mounts, was about 400-425 lbs., which included a RTT (Hannibal), awning, 2 kayaks (140lbs.) and 10 gallons of fuel. Not ideal, but didn't affect the rails. (Now, handling is a different story.)

With a confer rack.
