A simple idea for your Disco I Tdi300

This is a simple and very effective way to protect the fuel system of the Discovery I Tdi300 which comes with a water trap or moisture trap in the front of the fuel tank
The filter is very common in tractors and ready available in all the countries.
The only thing required is getting a longer bolt for the water trap at the back of the beast and fit a Ryco R2132P or Cav Delphi 296 and presto, the life of the main filter is more that double.
I have this filter system for the last 70.000 kls and all is running smooth.

Hope that the idea is useful. :)

Very neat idea. I'll have to measure the space on my 110 and see if it would work. I'd be concerned that the extra length would not fit behind the bash shield and would also stick below the frame.

Will require some research. . .:coffee:

Graham,
If I'm reading your response correctly, I'm surprised to hear you don't have a prefilter! I can take a picture of mine. The prefilter mounts on the frame behind the right rear wheel. I have a Racor R60P mounted-very effective. Most Racor prefilter mounts actually have threaded plugs with optional fuel heater can thread into for winterizing.

As far as I am aware the Defenders Tdi 300 in Australia do not have the moisture trap that is fitted to the Discovery Tdi 300 of which I was referring to in mi post. I believe that some Defenders owners had purchased a full CAV filter/trap to fit it on the firewall.
I have posted this idea in AULRO ( http://www.aulro.com/afvb/ ) an excellent Land Rover forum of which I am a member and you will see some of the replies regarding the Defender.
To any member who is contemplating coming to Australia I strongly recommend to be part of AULRO

I have a sedimentor on the frame in front of the right rear wheel, but it is not really a filter. Has a screen in it and a sed bowl. The main filter is the large on in the engine bay. From checking the pic that Chucaro posted, it looks like he has a filter that goes in line with the sedimentor. Am I correct on that or have I missed something?

cheers

The one I have installed is a seperator AND filter (30 micron). You should look into these if you want prefiltration. Serves as a primary filter, making the one in the engine bay (LR 300 TDI stock) as a secondary. Mine has a replaceable filter.

Yes you are correct, if it is like the original part that I have in my Disco, what you do is fitting the filter between the water trap and the mounting. In my Disco the trap is mounted just in front of the fuel tank on the RH. The only part that you need is a longer bolt. This filter then prevents the majority of the dirt reach the original main filter in the engine bay.
Cheers
