A TWO Door Gladiator...Is There A Need For This Mod?

Meet the Boseman Montana Acela Dispatcher. An aftermarket mod being developed for the Jeep frame.

Soooo, A TWO Door Gladiator...Is There A Need For This Mod?

Many Jeep aficionados will admit that they don’t like the proportions of the "just too dang big" double-cab Jeep pickup. But maybe they'd also admit that in others ways a Jeep pickup would be a good idea.

Well, it seems now that those folks who might want a shorter Jeep pickup are in luck.

From the below article:

"Meet the Acela Trucks Dispatcher 4×4, which ditches the four-door/short-bed arrangement found on the standard Gladiator for a single cab and a massive 7’x5′ flat-load bed. And not only does it look the part, but the Dispatcher 4×4 is made more capable by the conversion. Payload capacity maxes out at 3,001 pounds (depending on installed accessories) vs. just 1,720 lbs for a factory Gladiator. And since the Dispatcher includes the Gladiator’s upgraded 4.10:1 final drive ratio (and its Dana 44 front/rear axles), it maintains its 7,700-pound maximum tow rating."

Here's how this aftermarket mod shakes out:

But I'm not sure how much you really gain with this because the long wheelbase is still the same as a full size Gladiator. But still, it's a smidge shorter than a Toyota Tacoma XtraCab with a long bed, so they're that.

Anyway, the modification crew must disagree about maneuverability because they're comparing this body change to full size pickups in that category. Otherwise it'd seem to me the biggest selling point might be the enormous gain in cargo carrying capacity.

(The article continues)
"Acela says the Dispatcher is built on a “modified” Gladiator frame ... can be configured with the standard bed or as a chassis cab for end-user customization. The company is pitching it as a more compact and maneuverable alternative to a factory half-ton pickup, and with that huge bed and those payload numbers, it appears to fit the bill.

The Dispatcher delivers higher payload and superior maneuverability compared to half- ton pickup trucks, all on a compact chassis at a significantly lower price point — even lower than some worksite UTVs,” company president David Ronsen said in Acela’s announcement. “It gives Acela a powerful platform to support our customers’ critical missions.”

What do you think? With the right pop up or hardside camper, would this be da bomb? Me, I'd consider buying one if it gained a bit more room behind the seats at the cost of the 7' bed (swapping that tradeoff for a 6' bed).

Hopefully this new build will catch some creative Expo Member's eye (and wallet) and we'll soon see an interesting thread here showing the process of matching this body with a low profile mostly self contained pop up camper...🥰

Acela sells most of their trucks to emergency response. A company that size obviously knows demand better than we do, I bet they sell a ton of them, but probably not to overlanders. Will be cool in a few years for people to start picking up used ones to play around with.

Jeep has teased us a few times with its Easter Jeep Safari 2-Door Gladiator Concept, and everyone wanted one. I personally would be interested in one, especially with a camper shell.

Gr8Tops has been selling a kit for a while. Seems like Acela is buying their parts, adding an aluminum bed and marking it all up.
It is not a Gr8Tops kit. Acela made their own.

I climbed all over the J6 at Easter Jeep Safari with a tape measure and the guy who designed the Gladiator.
The J6 is a four door wrangler with a bed.. it was never a gladiator frame or wheelbase.

A ton of the articles out there are missing the best details about this thing.

- The President of Acela said they worked closely with Stellantis on this.
- They legally increased the vehicle's GVWR.
- It will be sold at Jeep dealers around the country.
- The version shown with an aluminum flatbed and bed liner, based on the Gladiator Sport will be $56,000 delivered anywhere in the country, about $16,000 more than the stock Gladiator Sport it's built on.
- It has a 3,001 pound payload.

I'm not going to read too much into this, but @Dan Grec sure knows a lot about the new Acela truck. Are we going to see a new rig reveal soon?

Not yet.
They have not yet made public the exact details of the GVWR and how exactly it's done.
I'm wondering if the vehicle has a different GVWR sticker from the factory, or if it's some kind of "mod plate".

The President did say they'll build it on any trim level and with any options, which means Rubicon is a go, though I don't know if they can do it on a used Gladiator. If I were doing this, I would only want it with the 3.0 EcoDiesel.
Once you've owned that engine it's impossible to go back to the 3.6 gasser.

Living nearby to Acela, it’s hard to picture them pulling this off. I think they might be looking for their “next thing” as I don’t often see their large conversion trucks out and about. Maybe they made some connections through AEV in Missoula?

I usually spot a lot of concepts and test vehicles here in S.E. Michigan. Didn't know a thing about this until I spotted this post!

A solution looking for a problem- the payload will go out the window once you alter the suspension. Outside of the novelty- you could get a real full-size truck- 3/4 for less money an as much capability

Why would you alter the suspension though? The point of this entire truck is to have the payload not to have soft flexible jeep suspension. It’s about a $6k markup over a regular cab 4x4 Tradesman 2500 but maybe someone values the more compact size at that difference.
