Last year I bypassed my ac compressor when the pulley went.

, Today I was backing out of the convenience store and heard a snap. The tensioner pulley had broken off. Wish I had my camera so I could have got a pic. Its getting fixed at a local garage. I was wondering if it broke because I had bypassed the AC compressor?

Hard to say for sure.

Did you hear a lot of squeaking from the engine prior to the break? Those pulley's go bad and are cheap to replace.

I think they fail for a couple reasons, but they basically just wear out. 272k miles and I am on my 3rd. I think if you put too much tension on the belt they will fail early.

I didn't hear anything before today and it was just a snap and fortunately I was near a garage and hopefully it will be back tomorrow.:smiley_drive:
