Adjustable angle tongue

I have begun planning my M416 trailer build, and had an idea.

What do you think of an adjustable angle tongue? I think it would allow me to have a little shorter tongue length and make it so that if I need more jack knife clearance on the trails. Just pivot the tongue the to the side that I want to have the trailer turn, and my clearance that way would be increased.

Would this work, or would it just be a novelty thing that is interesting but useless?

i think its a cool idea, but i think it would be very hard to turn it on the trail when you have a tongue weight, not to mention rough terrain that the wheels would have to move over while you pull it to one side of the other.

After towing my sliding tongue equipped trailer and using the sliding feature exactly zero times while towing I don't see putting a lot of effort into such a system. I have no doubt that there are times that being able to change the tongue length would be a great advantage, but making the change while on the trail is not trivial. At least not with my trailer. It is a very handy feature for manually moving the trailer around on rough ground and I would include this feature on any future build for the ease of setting tongue weight for various load configurations. I am expecting to need to change this after the Pull-out Kitchen box is installed and the spare's location is changed.

In theory it's a great idea, but in the real world scenario where you need the feature, you won't be able to change the angle without first being able to move the trailer or tow vehicle. Also, the additonal turnign radius gained is less with the rotatable concept than it would be if you went from long to short on an extendable tongue.

I have an extendable tongue and that is a very useful feature. Much easier to design and lots of real world useful applications.
