Advice for lightning?

I wish I had more practice at this, but Oregon is a really mellow state for harsh weather. Shooting a 20D and had the 17-40 f/4L with a circular polarizer on (it was just on). I wasn't sure shooting 1600 ISO was a smart move but wanted something fast enough to get the strikes? I think this was shot something near wide open (5.6?). 40-50s exposure

Ideas/critique would be great! I noticed as it got darker I got cleaner shots. This was shot above Durango overlooking Lemon Resevoir. I headed up into the forest around Hermosa.. not much open up there but I found a nice grade of road with a view to spend the night. This storm was moving at a nice leisurely pace from left to right. Haven't tried to apply something like Noise Ninja to it yet.

I think it looks great ... How you did it is the the proper technique, but it just takes a whole bunch of exposures as you are at the mercy of the weather as to where and when the strikes occur. Noise ninja would clean it up some, as well as some tweaking in photoshop but all in all, you've got it.
