Advice in water tank locations.

I am building a big rig on an M1083. The truck currently weighs 26,000lb empty, but will weigh more once I add everything.

The box will be mounted by a rail on rail subframe.

I am planning three 50 gallon tanks. I have two locations for water that I can use.

One is on the passenger side just forward of the rear double bogie pivot and the other is center rear.

Currently my two spare tires will be at the rear and a place for a dirt bike.

So the trade off is off-center in front of the tires or center behind the rear tires.

On a truck that heavy, does it matter that much. Opinions please.

Especially would like to hear from a few experts.

Yes, the tanks will all be inside. Either under the bunk beds or under the dinette floor.

I have posted the floor plan but did not mention the two locations. Thanks for the prompt.

Our water tanks are under the two dinette seats, right hand side between the axles, 750 liters total. The main fuel tank is on the left side of the truck, between the axles 450 liters. We rarely fill the water. Empty or full makes very little difference to how the truck feels. I would try to keep the weight between the axles or over the rear axles.

As noted,:
-- Keep weight forward,
-- Water inside to avoid freezing,
-- Over 50 USG there may be advantages to separate tanks or internal baffles,
-- A six inch cleanout opening is nice,
-- Put the drain valve inside the heated camper. (Don't ask how I learned about this.)
-- Add a gross prefilter on the output of the tank to protect your pump.

And, at no extra cost, attach any rear bike/moto/tire carrier to the frame, not just the camper.

Wow.... I like your design. I would have had my dinette in the front too, but I am making that big crawl through..... did not want to hunch-walk to the camper only to crawl over the dinette.

Will hit you up next week. We have much to discuss.

This week..... collecting potable water and looking for frozen water pipes.
