That is a rather nice kit.

For my purposes I need the kit for an LJ though.

Thank you for posting up.

Unless AEV changed their minds, they are not offering a diesel swap. They found the task to be too much of a headache to offer commercially. And the Dodge version is a no go for California.

News of the AEV Hemi kit for Jeep JKs got me to thinking. The Hemi upgrade will add at least $11,000 ($6000 for the kit, $5000 for engine and trans) to the cost of your JK, assuming you can do the installation work yourself, and maybe $18,000 if you have AEV do the work. That's as much as $49,000, and you still don't have suspension lift, taller tires or bumpers.

The Jeep Commander Overland comes from the factory with the 5.7L Hemi. Price is $38,900, including a factory discount of $5500. The Commander needs a suspension lift for taller tires to gain some ground clearance. Let's add $6000 for lift and tires. That's $44,900.

The results would look something like this AEV show vehicle.

The Jeep Commander model includes Chrysler's unlimited miles engine and drivetrain warranty. The AEV engine kit will probably void your Chrysler warranty altogether.

Sure, the JK ultimately would have better performance on a monster trail. But the Commander would be a more comfortable vehicle, and just as capable on 95% of the trails you might be willing to attempt with a $40,000+ vehicle.

Some specs for the JK and Commander are listed below

I meant the mopar liscenced diesel avail for TJ/LJ.

I don't think there is anything stopping that diesel from going into a JK!:D

If you're are referring to the same diesel engine that Peterson's wrote about a few months back, I believe the intent was to offer the engine as a create motor with a kit available to install it into a TJ a bit easier. Sounded like you could get just the motor with the ECU though. Just thought I'd throw that out there! :jump:

I would at least like to see one of the kits installed. Couple comments, however: 1) Cost does not include the motor. This is just an installation package. 2) Cost does not include installation, of course. That can run several thousand. 3) Don't know if the kit would qualify the end product as emission legal, which would be worth knowing, as they are intended to install into relatively new vehicles. 4) Ceramic exhaust is not worth $1,000. Period. You also won't want to have ceramic on an off-road vehicle. Nice stuff for street and show, but the ceramic exhaust will spall if subjected to cold water, and will stain permanently if subjected to mineral-based sand and mud. Not that we run into sand, mud, or deep water while driving off road. I would stay with stainless steel or aluminized standard exhaust tubing.

But it still wouldn't be a convertable.
