Africa!

Gearing up for the big Africa trip and had some camera Q's. I will be taking a lot of photos this time around. The good news is we have a full video crew going so I don't have to take any video!

Here is my q. I will be spending most of my time within 20 miles of the equator. So think SUNNNNNY. I need some guidance on filters. What filters would work best for outdoor BRIGHT light shooting?

I shoot a Nikon Digital SLR if that matters. A D50 to be exact.

OK someone skool me on filters......

Other than a comon polarizer filter, I can't offer much advice in that regard, but all my outdoor trail photography I adjust the exposure compensation down a stop or two. Seems to help a lot. Just remember to crank it back up when shooting in low light or indoors.

Filters?

Don't need no stinkin' feetlers.

Seriously, other than a skylight in the old days and a Nikon "Neutral Clear" today, for protection, I have never used a filter in Africa and I have been shooting here for some thirty years.

In the next breath I would add that a polarizer might be very useful, especially in the desert. Just assumes that you have the time to use it before your subject moves on.

Some of my stuff is on my website.

Read the travel warnings and have a good, safe trip.
