Airstream Basecamp

Did a search but couldn't find anything on the Airstream Basecamp. Was wondering if anyone had used or had any comments on thes little trailers. I realize that they may not qualify as true expedition trailers, but they do offer an offroad pkg that consists of a heavier axle and AT tires giving you a couple more inches of clearance.

Once you get past the initial sticker shock ($24-$28K) they do offer a fair amount of versatility. I have heard where the initial sales figures were not that good and dealers have been giving pretty good discounts.

The Basecamp web site is at:

Nice concept but I don't think even with offroad package I would tow it on Ubehebe road to Teakettle junction which is consider a very mild dirt/gravel road in Death Valley.
The price put it out of reach for most of the people who want it. The lack of luxury, ex. full bath and etc., make the people who can afford it don't want it. 2cent.:peepwall:

I had a good look at the BaseCamp at a show in Sacramento. I thought it was an innovative concept but that it was not as well executed as it could have been. For example, the water "tank" & gray water tank was simply some 5 gallon jugs placed under the sink. The entrance is low, even for my 5'9" height. The dealer had put foam on the header after several people took a hit.
In standard Airstream tradition, the fit and overall craftsmanship was good. Unfortunately the whole thing left me feeling that it was a design school project that is pleasing to the eye but not thought out to completion.
