Alite Monarch Camp Chair - REVIEW

I didn't see a previous post on this...so here goes.

I just received 2 Alite Monarch Camp Chairs via FedEx from REI.

These new additions to our camping gear were chosen specifically for canoe camping. Michelle and I were looking for something ultralight and packable for when we take travel / camp by canoe.

When we use the RV we use our Large Lafuma chairs which are very comfy but VERY bulky.

For Jeep camping, we use the PICO Chairs which are collapsible, stow easily, and retain comfort values. There have been many reviews of them on ExPo.

Now, these Alite Monarch Camp Chairs fit the bill perfectly for backpacking or when size and weight are of primary concern. Gladly, they are also quite comfortable in relation to the size, weight. Take a look at the packed size specs below!!!

WELL DONE ALITE!!

They take a bit of getting used to when sitting, but you can quickly become an expert.

One great thing about the chair is that you can also rock in them.

Also, I am ~270 pounds and it holds me just fine without any issues.

Here are the specs from ALITE:
(from http://www.alitedesigns.com/monarch-camp-chair-5 )
weight 1.35 lbs
dimensions 23"H x 21.5"W x 17"D
packed size 4.5" x 13"
material(s) 210D ripstop nylon fabric / cool mesh side panels
pole material 7075 aluminum

Thanks for posting that video link, it confirmed my suspicions from looking at the images alone. I don't think I have the skill to use something like that :)

My wife keeps talking about how much she'd like to have a chair when we're camping in the backcountry. These seem to be the smallest, lightest chairs I can find. But my worry is you are still supporting some of your weight on your legs. Can you fully relax on these? Do you feel any tension in your legs? Is it the kind of chair you'd be comfortable in for a couple hours?

Don't worry about your legs... Those chairs are the most compfy lightweight seating solution out there! I can sit in mine for hours without problem. I like this thing so much that I even have one set up in my livingroom to read the paper in the morning :coffee:

Thanks, sound like a winner. Might be a good way to use the current REI discount.
