I have been thinking about doing the samething, I already have a tent. I pretty much have an idea but I'm going to do some more research on it before I start on it.

I thought the same thing and started reading into it... There are a few DIYs out there... Seems like most of the DIY setups end up costing a few hundred bucks and are nowhere as nice or functional. I decided if I'm going to drop 300 or more on a DIY one I'd rather find a used or off brand for 600-1000... Do some googling on RTTs DIY and you should find a few... Good luck and make sure to link a build thread

There are a handful of DIY investigation and build thread here on ExPo. Can it be done, surely. Can it be done cheaper than pre-manufactured model if your time is worth more than $5/hour, probably not :D

My biggest reasoning for not doing an RTT or a DIY RTT is because there is six of us my wife, me my 12 yr old son and 7 yr old triplets. I think I will take the time and set up a tent on the ground than a rough top. :)
