An LR3 weekend of work!

I've got some work cut out for my Saturday. I will be swapping out my EAS for the British Atlantic Coil conversion kit with the OME coils as well as need brakes. I needed to do plugs too, but I was able to find an hour to get them done last night. I have to say the plugs were not half as bad a job as I had been lead to believe. I had put the job off for months because of how often I had read that it was a nightmare to get the rear plugs out. But it wasn't bad at all and I had the job done in just over an hour. Saturday morning I will be pulling into the garage and starting with the rear swapping out the suspension and brakes one corner at a time. The Sunday morning ill be off to get an alignment. I didn't get photos of the plug job, but I will be documenting the coil conversion. Now my only concern is that the truck stays under 79" so I can back it out of my garage when I'm done. If not Ill be taking off the GPS dome and deflating the tires :smiley_drive:

As am I. I suspect I'll be doing the conversion in the not-so-distant future. Looking forward to reading about your experience and seeing pics, duh. haha Good luck!

Good luck with everything. I too did not find the plugs to be that bad. A couple of swivel heads and some extension and I was right in there. Anyway, I wanted to relay my experience on the rear brakes. When you replace the rotors be VERY careful with readjusting the parking brake. I screwed it up and it's a very expensive dealer fix. I've been driving around with my parking brake out of service for a year now because I refuse to pay $2K to have it fixed!

Silly Question Do you guys jack off the third member to lift your LR3's or just off the frame and do it one corner at a time?

I'd think twice about not fixing the parking brake. Any time you park, especially on any type of incline, your transmission gear is now going to be taking on the full weight of this very very heavy vehicle. You'll eventually destroy the gear and will be out even more money for a transmission rebuild. I took the Land Rover offroad driving clinic down in Monterrey California and the instructor stress this point continually and was advised to stress this by Land Rover...use the parking brake ALL the time and do not let the transmission hold the vehicle still as you will destroy the transmission gear due to the extreme weight of these vehicles. You're playing with a ticking time bomb by not getting the parking brake fixed.

I wouldn't jack under the third member. I will jack under the frame and place stands under the jack points as shown in the illustration that I hope will attach.

Just a further note on this, while doing a demo at MAR last year the Disco 1 was left in park - and the park pin snapped, it was parked on a slope, and it took off... set the brake, always...

I got 13 mm spacers to add to the rear coil assembly in yesterday. Now I need to decide tonight if I really want to take the time to dissemblance the rear coil to put them in. as some other I was thinking that the little extra height in the back would level the truck out with a load. From the look I'm guessing they would go on the bottom.

If you're worried about being level under load, just swap over to air suspesion as the auto leveling function works perfect ;) (j/k...hahaha)

I'm waiting to hear all the rave reviews on the coil-spring upgrade. So far my EAS is working perfectly but I know I will reach the point someday and need new parts or make the decision to swap-over to coils.

I have enough projects to pass time for many new forum members to work out the trial and error and what configuration works the best............so far I like what I am seeing! :coffee:
