Another Inverter Question

Is the inverter an electrical draw if there's nothing drawing electricity from the inverter? If a 2000w Inverter is turned on with nothing plugged into it, is it drawing 200w +/- from the battery bank?

The SAR/camping mods to my Basecamp are almost done. I've got 4 12v 205AH Gp31 AGM's, a Kyocera 135W 12V Solar Panel with Solar Boost 2000E 25A 12V Charge Controller, and an Air Breeze 200W 12V Wind Turbine.

For DC I need to power a new ARB fridge, radio equipment, lights, etc. For AC, besides the pure sine wave for computers, the biggest draw would be a large coffee maker that requires 1500w when brewing.

There is a pre-installed shore-power plug that converts directly to the batteries without first passing through a charge controller or inverter. I do not have an inverter yet.

So, should I get a battery tender for the shore-power such as sold by the great folks AT and a 2000w pure sinewave inverter, or should I get one of the expensive pure sinewave 2000w invertors that have the charger built-in?

TIA

The inverter will be drawing power when it is turned on even when there is nothing plugged into it. I don't think it would be anywhere close to 200 watts but this would vary from inverter to inverter. I put a remote switch on mine so I could shut it off anytime it's not being used.

My install post number 40

I just checked...mine has a no load current draw of <.4 A DC

Thanks, that's what I thought. In the specs for one inverter it lists the no-load draw as 2.8A with only .6A in powersave mode. Of course I can shut it off completely when not needed.

Now I just need to figure out if I should get a separate ChargePro charger/battery tender and a Go Power 2000W pure sinewave inverter, or a big Magnum or Xantrex Invertor with built-in charger.
