Another narrow, aggressive tire

This might not be "new" news, but I was poking around and found these.

http://www.intercotire.com/site32.php

The equivalent metric size is about 240/100-15, or 240/90-16.5 ...they reminded me of the Simex tires, which are also an aggressive, bias ply, high aspect ratio tire, but Interco is readily available in North America.

Anyone ever tried these?

I have never used them, so this is based strictly on what I saw, and what the owners said about them. Take it for what it is worth (bring salt).

They are heavy, don't wear very well, don't balance worth a s#!t, don't stick to rocks very well, and generally suck for anything except possibly mud. I saw them in Moab, Florence AZ, and in Big Bear CA (I think). No one I talked to about them seemed happy with the performance. But, I never talked to anyone who spent alot of time in the mud with them, which is really what I understand they were made for. So I suppose if you put them in their element, they might perform well...but on the rocks, no one seemed happy with them.

I looked hard at these tires before I ended getting Maxxis. The thing that held me back was the feedback on the net about weight, balancing, and poor wear.

I had the SSR's not a bad tire. Heavy? yes but they were 285/75/16's which by their calc = 33.9X11.4 Rough ride? yes but for what, their offroad performance was amazing though without proper technique you could get stuck. They dig like a dog and if not easy on the throttle will make a hole for that nights campfire. I did like them sidewalls were nice and thick. Interco makes a few tires that always get bad reviews (ThornBirds, Truxus MT).

even nasty clay like mud is no problem a rover with same size mt's cut this line moments ago and had to winch out so I steered the hard line just to see what might happen. I made it !

A TSL is almost a standard issue tire in our neck of the woods. So much mud to deal with. THey suck on the road though. laud, rattle your teeth out, no traction, but get it done in the mud they do!

I was running swamper 38x12.5 tsl-sx for a year and was pretty happy with them -- I almost had to wear headphones to hear the radio and an intercom to talk to the passenger. Loud on the road, but great offroad. They were heavy, but balanced and wore fine...but literally fell apart on the hwy at 5000 mile!. The guys at Interco said to be sure to run them at or near their highest psi. They heat up alot.

That all sounds completely normal for a soft compound, aggressive tread, bias ply offroad-specific tire--I'd never run a tire like this on a DD or a long trip that spent time at speed or on pavement--but the poor performance on rock is unfortunate.

Any of you guys tried the Simex tires? How do they work on rocks as opposed to jungle mud?

They work great on rock, snow & mud. I used them this winter in snow and they were amazing. They are soft enough for rocks and don't wear down as quickly as other MT tires.

It is a difficult distinction to try and get people to understand. A swamper is where its at for the wet off road arena. Mud Terrains are good for an aggressive style all terrain. Where as the Interco's will through small puppies.
