Another South Eastern Oklahoma Adventure

True to his nature, Mr. Leary called me up at about 1:00 Friday evening. "Hey man... these guys in Houston asked me to show them around on the Ktrail. I forgot about it until they called. Ummm, you want to go?"

Last minute decisions are how I roll, but I still needed to check things with my wife and make sure we didnt have any plans. Nope. Good to go.

Most of you guys know Mr. Leary's rig, a 1999 4Runner, pretty much fully kitted out.

Well, the guys we were meeting just bought a stock 2007 4Runner 4wd. Its perdy, but not for long. She got her christening scratches, courtesy of the K-trail. Kustom pin striping.

Of course, you cant start an offroad trail without fueling up. We spotted this nice CJ5, equipped with locking REAR hubs.

Head, south about 2 miles from Clayton and turn left on Nine Pines road. Another 5 or so miles down the road, where you turn onto the Clayton trail, and you head up the mountain.

The point for this trip was to teach the Troungs a bit about off roading and overland travel.
Here is Mr. Leary spotting the stock 4runner across an obstacle that Mr. Leary's truck didnt event slow down for (not to mention I was driving :smiley_drive:)

There were a few other obstacles that we traversed, but this being our umptenth time to go on the K-Trail we didnt take as many photos... trying to get down the road this time.

If anyone remembers our ************-baggery thread...
This is the site of the above event.... Remember? The rednecks who built a fire in the middle of the road on our first trip...

Running from a rain shower....

Hmm, lets do an action shot series, driving through a water puddle.

And, ummm, whoops. You, Sir. Have. A. Flat. These boys must have made a start in either NASCAR or street racing. Probably the latter. They had the wheel changed in no more than 20 minutes. The lesson is, do not take street tires on this sort of trail. The side wall was shredded. Our fancy ARB plug kit could not fix this failure!

This month must be the Month of the Serpent... I've had to remove 3 rattle snakes from the roads in the last 2 weeks.

(I'll put the video on later--- Calling Mr. Leary)

And then there was the jungle... This section of the trail is well overgrown and quite deep. Fortunately for the soft roaders there is a bypass.

Another section that required a spot. Not so technical but critical.

Critical? Huh??

Shadows are getting quite long, time to make camp.

This looks like a good spot. An abandoned homestead at the base of the fire tower, used by the Forestry service way back in the day.

We then exited the K-Trail on a route neither of us had traversed. The route went straight down the mountain and had its fair share of obstacles as well.

We then found another trail north of Muse, OK

looks like a fun trip.

sucks about the popped tire, but that is why we all have spares.

the white paint on that 4runner really made some of those pictures pop.

nice shot of the rattlesnake, i caught 1 yesterday on my trip.

Maybe I won't throw my back out before the next trip. :wings:

I was nice, however, to have Scott assume driving duties for most of the trip... allowing me to sit back and relax.

A fun trip, and we ate like kings, thanks to the Troungs! :)

We discovered some fun new trails, and met some cool new folks! Good times!
