Another tire question. 33s on 18s?

I believe that I may need tires before fall. I am looking for suggestions for 33s that would work on the Sahara 18" wheels. Any ideas? I was looking at the duratracks but they are not available with an 18" option.

I had looked at the Nitto Terra Grapplers and BF Goodrich AT KOs in 285/65R18 when I was thinking about keeping the 18s on my 100-series.

im in this boat too. im probably gonna step down to a 16" to get more choices and cheaper tires. and have more sidewall for off road

I sold my 18" Sahara wheels for $200 to a forum member and bought some 16" Procomps that were on sale for $85 each.
Fast forward a year and these KM2s were on sale for $166 each.
Do the math and extend it forward a few years; you save huge money ditching the 18s.

This is the thought process I have been wrestling with. The 18s really do limit the tire choice. Especially since I would like to have a set of Goodyear DuraTracs.

BTW, I like your bumber  I think I might be getting the bull bar piece for my birthday! :wings:

I'll have to agree with the above posters. I'm normally a 'big wheel' guy, as I'm currently running 17x9 wheels and 35x12.5sR17s. I really like the tire at that size, works well on the highway and still enough sidewall that I'm not whacking the wheel into things offroad. The main downside here is that the bump to 17s really makes the tires more $$

I'd think 33 on 18 would be a bit less sidewall than I'd want for any serious wheeling. If the goal is fire roads, some desert, camping, etc.. it should be ok.. but if it was stuff I'd take a Jeep on 33s on I'd probably want 15s or 16s for that.

The downside I've found with some 16s is that's a popular 3/4 and 1 ton wheel size in the 31-33" wheel diameter. That adds a lot of load range E tires to choose from. I don't think I've tried a JK on E tires yet (they generally suck on TJs) Pretty sure my Rubicon had Ds on it.

If anything, do the math on the cost difference. I'd bet 16s + 33s will be pretty close in price to keeping the 18s and finding tires for them.
