Another trailer...

Anyone have experience or have seen any of these trailers?
The closest match is a Venter out of South Africa.

It's cheap and I can probably reinforce the lid to take my roof top tent or build some sort of external rack.

id say if its cheap go for it. throw a 3500# axle under it with a spring over and some larger tires. is it aluminum or steel? what kinda use will you be using it for? do you lie to do heavy wheeling or just cross country stuff?

Cross country stuff, dirt roads, but no rock crawling.

My bought an axle and 35" tires with wheels from a friend that were on his M416 trailer, so it should be easy to put them under this trailer with some minor grinding/welding.

From the ad:

Overall length is 8', 1000# gvwr. The main box is 6' x 3', the tongue box is a tapered enclosed box w/ a locking hasp, the main box has a secured from inside tailgate.

That's a similar version of the one I got from a construction foreman. He said he had it special made in Fla. It doesn't have a full frame under this one, just ribs with a single rectangular galvanized beam in the middle. Its worked out OK for hauling all the elk hunting gear(wall tent, wood stove, etc) out to the mountains. But mine would need some serious beefing up to do what some of you do. Mine has the back door also and it works out great since it can be accessed without raising the lid on the tub. Good find!

David,
I have seen this type trailer in DFW recently. Would work good for a trunk but would require some modification to make it offroad worthy. Neat clean design. If I didn't already have a 101cdn I would consider it.

Venter is the biggest trailer manufacturer in South Africa. They also make off-road trailers.

I'd describe their products as very plain, straight forward, of mass produced quality, dated design.

Yours is a real Venter, the one in craigslist is an Aerotow. I bet your Venter is 100x stronger....or did Venter import them in and sell them as Aerotows?

I got mine from a guy in Hesperia, the story I got was that it was "smuggled" here in a shipping container by people escaping the post-Mandela craziness. It's worked ok for my uses, I prefer an open area inside to put totes w/ gear vs. different compartments dedicated to kitchen, fridge, etc.
