Antenna Help please

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered a Yaesu FT-8800R. What antenna would you guys suggest for me?

Also, for anyone that has this, do I need to get the YSK-8900 Separation Kit in order to mount the faceplate in a different location?

Larsen NMO 2/70 is excellent.
There's a guy that sells separation kits for around $20 on eBay, a fair bit cheaper than buying from Yaesu.

I have the same radio; purchased at Ham Radio Outlet with the separation kit. I'm using the Diamond NR-770HBNMO antenna on a Comet CP-5 NMO adjustable hood mount (also purchased at HRO). Works great.

Unless you are drilling a hold in the roof (preferred actually), don't forget to buy a good antenna mount too, can be just as important.

I am thinking about mounting it on my front bumper, in which case I will just drill a hole. Though I may change my mind later and then be in teh market for a mount. Thanks

OK, just refunded my original order and now just picked up a Yaesu FT-8800R, seperation kit (free!!!!) and a Diamond NR-770HBNMO anteann. :wings:

Thanks guys, now I need to learn how to use it and learn all the rules of HAM again (its been 8 years since the test and never had a radio until now)....Ham radio for dummies, here I come! :victory:

Uhh ohh, is the bumper a bad idea? I have an allpro plate bumper. It will have some custom additions (light guards, limb riser mounting places, and planned antenna mounts).

Yeah the truck build is acutally happening over the next week or two, I have just been collecting parts, and am now starting to install them. My build thread will be populated in a few weeks.

I have a Diamond K400CNMO lip mount and a Comet SBB-5NMO antenna, and the setup works well. I mounted mine on the drivers side since the factory radio antenna is on the passenger side.
