Just wondering how these would compare to the BajaRack.

I didn't know Gobi made a 3rd gen rack, did they just come out with it? I like it, but it would take a few subtle modifications to fit my needs perfectly. I like that it is a full length rack, which is what I want.

Got a price on it?

I would guess the price is ~300 for the ladder, and ~1500 for the rack... That is based off other racks they make of a similar size

Are you having to drill into the roof to get the mounts in the front? I like the way it looks but the Gobi racks are pricey!!

My gobi gets used all the time - by used I mean someone is walking on it either as a photo platform, to use the mounted TentCot, to just to relax on beach chairs to enjoy the view. In fact, I recently removed my RTT to the trailer just to have the rack more readily accessible again. You are right, they are pricy, but I didn't buy it for looks, just function.

That's a nice rack:elkgrin: I like that built in tire mount up there, beats the old tie down method.

ooo finally they come out with one for the 3rd gens..and a ladder too? Now a tent cot is actually a viable alternative up there for us.

Wow, $1500? Couldn't you get a custom rack for that much? I don't know much about racks, so forgive the ignorance, but just seems like a lot of dough.

I think that price would be warranted if a person was actually loading a lot of gear up there frequently, on an actual long distance, long duration overland trip. For the other 90% of us who do short infrequent trips, the numbers just don't add up :(.

The Gobi site says they are rated for 300lbs driving load and 600lbs static load. How does that compare to other racks?

I think part of the high price is they are made in the USA and target the "high-end" crowd.

They are no doubt a high quality product...but that $1500 price tag, ouch. One could buy a tubing bender and build one yourself for that much and probably be money ahead if you already have a welder.

What material are these made out of? Are they powder coated?
