Any advice on new 08-09 4Runner 4.0 or 4.7

Not to be too vague, but any special considerations? Light to moderate off-road use (mostly for nature photography and family outings). Could do 4.0 or 4.7L (seems deals are best on 08 4.7s). I'm not sure how different the actual mileage is between the two motors. I'm not even sure which trim level (SR5, Sport, Limited etc). Again, I'm not being vague to the point of being flakey on purpose, just not sure yet and trust folks here to provide pretty good input.

If you're going to be pulling a camper, hauling heavy stuff, etc., go with a V8, no doubt. If not, the 4.0L V6 has PLENTY of power for everything else. Really up to you on what you're going to need. The 4.0L seems to be about ~3MPG better. Plus, it has a selectable drive (2WD, 4WD) whereas the 4.7L V8 is full-time 4WD. Oil changes can be done faster on the V6 as well. :D

On the trim, again, it's really up to you. I can't tell you what YOU would want. These questions are really too general.

It is an easy rig to live with.

Ours is used as a daily driver and what you described.

Simple ARB lift and 32" tires is plenty.

THe JBL stereo is more difficult to add external accessories (iPod, etc). The newer models may have iPod compatible stereos.

The basic externals are available from ARB, Shrockworks, Stubbs, Yakima, Thule, Baja Rack, etc. (winch bumper, sliders, roof rack & basket).

For camera gear, I like to have a locking drawer in the cargo space.
