Any ideas for securing two 5 gallon gas cans to under the frame of a Toyota truck?

I'd like to carry an extra 10 gallons of gas and first thought is to put them on a rack in the back (which seems like a thief magnet), but there is tons of room underneath my Toyota truck. I was wondering if anyone has figured out a simple and inexpensive way to secure two portable 5 gallon metal gas cans underneath their vehicle?

I have a friend you built a bracket and used a AT style can holder under his FJ60 - worked like a charm! It was diesel, just asking but is gas more dangerous in a a spot you can't see regularly?

Yes gas is a lot more flammable than diesel. What is an "AT style" can holder? I wish I need to learn how to weld stuff...

If you have your spare tire relocated you could build a rack that is hoisted by the factory tire chain lift, that's what I'm planning todo.

Those AT gas can holders are nice and their entire website is filled with lots of high quality goodies at gold prices, but dang, at $128 each I'd like to find something cheaper.

Is it realistic to expect that a 5 gallon gas can thats mounted flat (i.e. laying on its side) won't leak...or am I dreaming?

Depends on the can. I'd have no problem storing a NATO steel can on its side. On Pinzgauers they're stored on their side:

Ill watch this one too. Ive moved my gas tank from the stock position (on the drivers side of the rear driveshaft) to were the spare was. Its great to have that extra clearence crawling, but now its a big empty space that would be a great to store 10 gallons for long trips

jCubed - Thanks for providing the links and images. I read on Amazon that the Smittybilt can holder doesn't come with hardware needed to attach it to your vehicle. Did you get the hardware fabricated or did you find off-the-shelf hardware for the holder?
